Collection: Simon Cruz
Simon Cruz is a Mexican artist, born in Guadalajara, Jalisco in 1978. His work is an open invitation to observe with fresh eyes, emotional intelligence and intense colour, is the fusion of figurative art with creative abstraction, an open window to the aesthetic creativity of the everyday.
Cruz is an artist of international stature with more than 100 exhibitions inside and outside Mexico, who has developed not only in the fine arts, but also through collaborations with renowned luxury brands.
Among his most important exhibitions are the VM Word international event that brings together the avant-garde art and technology painting, skateboards with Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen. His exhibition at Lush Art Agency, Broadway, New York where he exhibited with successful street artists such as Kaws, Mr. Brainwash, and many more.
It is worth mentioning biggest success, a large format public sculpture, titled "el rancho" which is placed near the famous Riu hotel in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico.
From painting, sculpture and ceramics, his work is a focussed visual exercise, the particular observation that appropriates human stories and behaviours, and then translates it into a language of strong brushstrokes and disturbing looks.
Simón Cruz is an heir, not an epigone, of the same tradition to which Jean Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and urban avant-garde movements such as graffiti and hip hop belong. But this formula barely frames him, it does not define him fully.
