Alex Voinea paints on canvas made of cotton or linen. This is a conscious decision and affects the end result, materially and conceptually. Alex sees the white cotton as a void; the acrylic drips float in a anti-gravity effect, casting shadows solely within the strokes of color in the background, while the white or "void" remains empty. As for the brown linen, the drippings cast shadows onto the color and the walnut background. The linen has a more natural feel that interacts more with the acrylic composition, while the white cotton creates a more anonymous background that allows the focus to fall onto the 3D feel and the colors.
